STUDENT CONTEST BREATHES NEW LIFE INTO MADA

STUDENT CONTEST BREATHES NEW LIFE INTO MADA
Students from Miami International University of Art & Design were pitted against each other to create a branding platform in the MADA Branding Challenge
Miami, FL. – An organization’s logo is one of its most powerful features. It’s an instant visual representation and a symbol that audiences remember. The students at Miami International University of Art & Design, a university rich with curriculum in the creative arts, media arts and design, know this all to well. When MADA approached the university’s faculty to collaborate on a student branding competition, a partnership was born.
Working through the university’s Debra Pierce and Margaret Gonzalez, the Chair of the Graphic Design Department and working under the direction of Professor Adnan Razack, the MADA Branding Challenge criteria was co-developed. Essentially it called for the creative, distinctive and practical design of a logo for the organization, along with print and online applications of that design. Four groups comprised of graphic design and advertising students, competed for the chance to enhance their portfolios, garner recognition and gain a sense of “real world experience.”
“For 10 weeks, faculty, MADA and students collaborated,” say Isaac Perelman, President of MADA. “It was exciting to watch and hard to select what would be the final logo, given all the great entries.”
In the spirit of the competition, the groups branded themselves too. The winning team, The Manhattan Project, bested the others with a clean, modern and impacting logo design. The creator of the logo was the team’s leader, Stephan Leddick.
A special exhibition, showcasing the designs and ideas proposed by the students from Miami International University of Art & Design, along with the unveiling of the winning logo is programmed for February 11, 7-10 p.m. at Hardcore Contemporary Art Spaces. The special exhibition is on view till March 5.
Also, the inaugural Art Wynwood Art Fair will host a special MADA booth designed by The Manhattan Project, along with a display of the winning logo. For more information on the fair visit: http://www.art-wynwood.com

MADA's Gala Cocktail
Also we remind you that the Miami Art Dealers Association made a decision to expand the New Media Festival, which was founded in 2006 by Hardcore Art Contemporary Space. The festival serves as a platform for alternative forms of expression, focusing mainly in video, and will now be launched through the association. There are approximately fifteen galleries that will be participating in this year’s festival. By doing this we are making it a more prominent cultural event that could even be eligible for funding and/or grants from the City of Miami. By positioning this yearly event in October, it is our goal to create an international video art festival in Miami with a worldwide projection, that which does not currently exist. As of this moment, we are officially holding an open call to those galleries in the area who would like to form part of this circuit which will last from the second week in October to the second week in November, including both Gallery Walks of the respective months. The deadline for the application is September 21st, so please make sure each gallery wishing to participate gives us the requisites needed in order to form part of the program. This event will not overtake your gallery programming for those four weeks. We only ask for you to set apart a small area within your space to exhibit the video.
We would appreciate the confirmation of each galleries interest in participating in the New Media Festival so the applications for it can be sent out.
